Vance's Academy of Engineering was formed in 2008 as part of an initiative between CMS, NAF and PLTW. Since its inception, the academy's mission has been to create unique opportunities in which our students can Design, Devise and Exceed.
Our featured internship video (left) stars several of our students and was created in collaboration with one of our corporate partners Informative Technologies, INC. |
About VAOE
At Zebulon B. Vance High School Academy of Engineering (VAOE) it is our passion to expose and train students relative to STEM career fields. It is our school mission that we will graduate young adults who are self-directed, intellectually and socially engaged citizens ready for college, career, and life.
As an academy of engineering we are also on mission to maximize student exposure and training in the professional career fields to prepare students for entry level employment in the workforce and sustainability in their lives.
Through career and academic development, we plan unique experiences in alignment with our work-based learning model. Academy of Engineering graduates receive an additional diploma beyond the general education diploma offered. The Academy of Engineering diploma recognizes students who complete four levels of engineering coursework and who complete a minimum of 34 hours of work-based learning STEM field experiences with local businesses.
Furthermore, VAOE is a certified National Academy Foundation Academy of Engineering. For a quick parent/student orientation training click here. Students have the opportunity to earn NAFtrack certification that qualifies graduates with preferential interviewing with corporations such as AT&T, Verizon, Cisco, HP, and Verizon. Click here for more information.
Furthermore, we encourage our students to take honors and AP courses in order to maximize their training with a network of supportive teachers who help integrate common STEM design concepts in every course. This level of experience is also intended to create an environment of student peer support who all have similar interests to pursue STEM careers.
